3D visualisations in simulations of future land use: exploring the possibilities of new, standard visualisation tools

چکیده
Three-dimensional visualisations are an interesting method for representing model outcomes. But most visualisation techniques require expensive software, and a lot of time to create them. When a large set of visualisations is needed, or when the visualisations need to be adapted frequently, a faster and more flexible method is needed. The first step of the proposed model is to create the 3D elements. These elements are combined with the base map, and distributed to the public using Google Earth. Both freely available and commercial software are used in this process.

X3D Software Visualisation
We have a software visualisation architecture that requires tools to develop visualisations from XML execution traces and integrate the visualisations into user’s web environments. Most existing web software visualisation systems create 2D visualisations and if they do use 3D they are using technologies that are outdated, not designed for the web, and hard to extend. We are building a tool that...
متن کاملGeneric 3-Dimensional Visualisation for Distributed Simulations
Visualisation is a fundamental aspect of many simulations, providing a layer of abstraction between raw data and an interested human. This layer allows the user to quickly and easily parse the data and comprehend its significance. The lack of any generic visualisation tools has seen the widespread use of visualisation applications designed specifically for individual simulation implementations....
متن کاملRapid Prototyping of Urban River Corridors Using 3D Interactive, Real-time Graphics
Development of urban river corridors is a complex task with many elements needing to be drawn together. URSULA, Urban River corridors and Sustainable Living Agendas, is a major project looking at sustainability led redevelopment of these areas. Part of this process will be the use of interactive, three dimensional computer visualisations to not only create a dialogue between stakeholders, but a...
متن کاملInteractive 3D landscape assessment models
The term “interactive 3D visualisation” has been defined as “a simulation employing real time 3D graphics to represent the visual form of an area of landscape in which the user can control the viewing position to freely explore all the aspects of the land form” (MORGAN ET AL. 2009). Bishop (2005) and Schroth (2007) conclude that interactive 3D visualisations are suitable for facilitating discus...
متن کاملWidening stakeholder involvement : exploiting interactive 3D visualisation and protocol buffers in geo-computing
Land use change has an impact on regional sustainability which can be assessed using social, economic and environmental indicators. Stakeholder engagement tools provide a platform that can demonstrate the possible future impacts land use change may have to better inform stakeholder groups of the impact of policy changes or plausible climatic variations. To date some engagement tools are difficu...
